About Us

 Lustitia Aequalis

Lustitia Aequalis translates to "Equal Justice" in Latin, embodying the principle that justice should be accessible to all individuals, especially when competent legal representation is sought at the onset of interactions with the criminal justice and healthcare systems. Rooted in the concept of fairness, "Lustitia" reflects the moral righteousness associated with justice, while "Aequalis" signifies equality, underscoring the idea that everyone deserves equitable treatment, regardless of socioeconomic status or background.

Our Mission

At Lustitia Aequalis, Inc., we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, particularly those from marginalized communities, receives competent legal representation from the very beginning of their interactions with law enforcement and court and healthcare systems. Our mission is to dismantle systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to justice, advocating for comprehensive support that empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of American institutions confidently.

Our Vision

We envision a future where all individuals, regardless of their background, have immediate access to competent legal counsel during critical moments of engagement with law enforcement and judicial and healthcare systems. Lustitia Aequalis Inc. strives to create a society where accountability is paramount—where officials are held responsible for their actions, and where every person can advocate for their rights without fear of discrimination or inadequate representation.

Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. was elected to office in 2018. He has four decades of experience in law enforcement with unapologetic passion about advocacy for community engagement and accountability in law enforcement, aligning fully with our mission. His diverse career experiences in federal (DEA), state (NC), and local law enforcement provide a unique vision for fostering trust and transparency with various communities across America.

Sheriff Kimbrough's commitment to improving police-community relations is exemplified by initiatives such as “Surviving the Shield,” which supports the mental health of deputies, and his collaboration with Wake Forest University to create a Law Enforcement School of Executive Leadership. His leadership style emphasizes the importance of accountability and the use of technology, such as the Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) and Axon technology, to enhance deputy safety and community trust.

Under Sheriff Kimbrough's leadership, Lustitia Aequalis is expanding programming to include the implementation of a nationwide clearinghouse for law enforcement background checks. This initiative enhances the hiring process for law enforcement officers by ensuring that only the most ethical and qualified individuals are employed as they transition between departments and agencies. The clearinghouse provides greater transparency than traditional departmental internal audits, as it operates neutrally and is unaffected by personal relationships. By checking the complete service history of officers alongside standard background checks and community complaints, this initiative minimizes opportunities for the revictimization of citizens.

Sheriff Kimbrough holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from High Point University and a Master’s degree in Leadership from Piedmont International University. He also holds a Doctor of Laws degree from Carolina University and is a recognized expert level of understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities and as the first African American Sheriff of Forsyth County. Sheriff Kimbrough remains dedicated to empowering individuals and fostering a culture of respect and responsibility as he promotes equal access to justice, making him an invaluable partner in our mission to create a safer, more equitable society for all. In his spare time, Sheriff Kimbrough enjoys flying, reading, and nurturing his seven sons, whom he raised to be responsible and respectful young men.
